Privacy policy

What we collect

Browsing PriceSniff requires no account and no personal data. If you create an account (via an OAuth provider such as Google or GitHub), we store only: your email address, display name, avatar URL, and which sign-in providers you linked. We never see or store passwords, and we do not retain provider access tokens after sign-in completes.

What we use it for

Your email is used solely to deliver the price alerts you subscribe to. Every alert email includes one-click unsubscribe links that work without logging in. A global email opt-out is available in your notification preferences and is honored before any send.

Outbound clicks

When you click through to a retailer, we log the click (offer, time, whether you were signed in) to debug affiliate attribution. Retailer sites have their own privacy policies.

Analytics

We collect first-party usage analytics to understand how PriceSniff is used and improve it — which pages and offers people look at, and which features they use. This runs on our own self-hosted analytics service; the data stays with us and is never sold or shared, and no third-party analytics or advertising trackers are involved. Because it is first-party and privacy-respecting, analytics is on by default, and you can turn it off at any time — see below.

  • On by default, opt out anytime: we show a one-time notice on your first visit, and a "Turn off analytics" link is always available in the site footer and in your notification preferences. Turning it off is remembered on your device and clears the per-device analytics identifier in your browser; once off, no analytics identifier is created and nothing is sent.
  • What's recorded: pages viewed and in-product actions (for example, clicking through to a retailer or adding a watch), a per-device random identifier, and coarse context such as approximate country (from your IP, which is used transiently for that lookup and then discarded), referrer, and screen size. Admin pages are excluded.
  • No personal data in analytics: we don't put your email, name, or any free text into analytics events. If you're signed in, events are linked only to an opaque account identifier, never to your email or name.

Your data, your controls

  • Export: download everything we store about you (profile, linked providers, watchlist, alert subscriptions) as JSON from account settings.
  • Deletion: delete your account yourself from account settings. Deletion is immediate and permanent — watchlists, alert subscriptions, notification history, and sessions are removed with it.

What we don't do

  • No selling or sharing of personal data.
  • No third-party advertising or tracking scripts.
  • No third-party analytics — analytics is first-party and self-hosted, and you can turn it off anytime.

Product data

Product and price data is collected from our affiliate-partner retailers' official APIs under their program terms. Product summaries on this site are AI-generated from that collected data and labeled as such.
