DDR4 is -5.0% since Sep 12.
The charts start on the first day each median came from at least 200 kits; earlier days had too few listings to mean much. On Sep 26 we started tracking far more kits (about 700 DDR4 listings became about 1,700), so part of the step at that date is the wider sample, not the market.

What moved this month (October 2026)
DDR5 barely moved. Our median slipped from $17.44 per GB on Sep 27 to $16.93 on Oct 27, a 2.9% dip, and it stayed between $16.93 and $18.02 the whole month. DDR4 went the other way: after bottoming at $5.00 per GB in early October, it climbed back to $5.92, up 14.7% on the month.
The pressure is on the supply side. TrendForce expects conventional DRAM contract prices to rise another 10–15% this quarter, because memory makers keep prioritizing server DRAM for AI data centers (TrendForce, Sep 30, 2026). Retail kits follow contract prices with a lag, which fits a flat DDR5 month after a steep summer. DDR4 is an older standard that makers are winding down, so there's less of it to discount.
If you're buying this week: DDR5 is at the low end of its October range, so there's no reason to wait for a dip that the contract market doesn't point to. How we track prices
Every price here comes from our own records. We check listings from eBay and Walmart every day through their official product APIs, and we store a dated price point whenever a price or its stock status changes, so the history shows what we actually saw at the time and is never rewritten later. The charts are the median price per GB across every new and used desktop DDR5 or DDR4 kit we track that day. The kit tables only list kits sold by two or more stores. Product prices are the lowest live price across stores, the same number the product page shows. Category trend lines use the daily median, so one odd listing can't swing the chart. Price per GB is the kit price divided by its total capacity, so a 32GB kit at $160 works out to $5 per GB.

DDR5 is -0.4% since Sep 11 and DDR4 is -5.0% since Sep 12 on our charts. Every past DRAM spike has eased once new capacity arrived or demand cooled, but there is no fixed timeline, and cycles have lasted from months to well over a year.
Will RAM prices go down in 2027?
Probably not by much. TrendForce expects PC DRAM supply to shrink in 2027 as more capacity moves to servers, and new memory fabs take years to add output. Our RAM price forecast page lays out the scenarios and what would change them.
