How we calculate price per gigabyte
Price per gigabyte ($/GB) takes a memory kit's lowest current price and divides it by its total capacity, so kits of different sizes line up on one scale — a $75 32 GB kit at $2.34/GB is better value than a $45 16 GB kit at $2.81/GB despite the higher sticker price.
We keep DDR4 and DDR5 in separate tables because they are not interchangeable — your motherboard and CPU accept only one — and their $/GB curves move independently as each generation ages. Prices refresh automatically from live retailer listings. Treat $/GB as a value guide once you have settled on the generation, capacity and speed your build needs: buying more total capacity in a single kit almost always lowers your $/GB.
